Man United eager to rectify £15m mistake; They must now spend £43m | OneFootball

Manchester United are reportedly plotting an onslaught for their former player Anthony Elanga who has been a revelation at Nottingham Forest this season.

The 22-year-old started his career at Elfborg and Malmö in his native Sweden, but the Red Devils poached him in 2015.

The winger climbed his way up the club’s ranks to become a member of the first team in January 2022. However, the youngster struggled for space amongst the seniors, often making appearances in the Carabao Cup.

Therefore, Elanga ended up joining Forest in the summer of 2023 on a deal worth £15 million. The Swede found mild success in his first campaign at the City Ground, contributing with five goals and nine assists.

Nevertheless, he has taken his game to a whole new level this season. He has thus scored six goals in all competitions while providing nine assists, playing an instrumental role in the club’s surprising Top 5 push.

So according to CaughtOffside, Man Utd are now considering bringing Elanga back to Carrington, believing he can raise the overall quality of the attacking department.

But if INEOS consider selling the winger a mistake on the part of the previous management, then rectifying it will require a costly operation. As the source explains, Forest have no reason to give up Elanga, but they might consider lucrative offers in the region of £43 million.

Earlier this month, Elanga stunned Man Utd by scoring a sensational goal from an end-to-end solo run, giving the club a reminder of the sort of talent they allowed to slip through their grasp.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Red Devils re-sign a former player. They have already done so with Jonny Evans who was brought back despite his advanced playing age.

More famously, the club spent £89 million to lure Paul Pogba back to Carrington following his fabulous four-year stint at Juventus between 2012 and 2016.
