Manchester City are closing in on an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Tuesday’s slightly nervy 2-0 win over Tottenham means Pep Guardiola’s side are strong favourites to lift the trophy once again as they prepare to host West Ham on the final day of the season.
City went into the trip to north London with a clean bill of health after Jack Grealish and Nathan Ake returned to the squad following illness and a slight knock respectively.
Still, they did not emerge from the Spurs game totally unscathed.
While Guardiola has stressed that first-choice goalkeeper Ederson was not concussed before he was replaced by Stefan Ortega following a nasty collision with Cristian Romero, the first-choice goalkeeper will now miss both West Ham’s visit and the FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley on May 25 after scans revealed a small fracture to his right eye socket.
Given the nature of Ortega’s performance after coming on, however, perhaps the back-up stopper would have kept his place anyway.
Kevin De Bruyne was also replaced and Guardiola confirmed the Belgian “couldn’t run properly” after a challenge from Pape Matar Sarr. The midfielder, however, eased injury concerns after the game.
Man City predicted XI: Ortega; Walker, Dias, Akanji, Gvardiol; Rodri, Kovacic; Silva, Foden, Doku; Haaland
Injured: Ederson
Doubt: De Bruyne
