In a season that has oscillated between dominance and fragility, Manchester City face Wolves at the Etihad tonight, knowing any misstep could shape how their campaign ends. With Champions League qualification nearly secured and another FA Cup final on the horizon, Pep Guardiola’s balancing act continues.
Erling Haaland has returned to training but remains a doubt for tonight’s clash. The Norwegian has been absent since March after an ankle injury in the FA Cup quarter-final against Bournemouth. Guardiola, typically cryptic but revealing enough, noted: “We are really pleased Erling is back and Rodri is back in the training sessions.”

But he tempered expectations: “The moment the physio and doctor say that Rodri can start to play minutes and after that he will start to play minutes. But the doctors have to tell me… When the doctor says Rodri is stable and he can play, after that he is going to come back.”

Rodri’s return remains further off, although his presence in training is timely. With key defensive absentees — Ederson, Ake, Stones, and Bobb — still sidelined, Guardiola may again turn to Stefan Ortega in goal.
With Haaland out, Omar Marmoush is expected to lead the line. Kevin De Bruyne could return to the starting XI after being benched for the FA Cup semi-final, while James McAtee is available again post-suspension.

There is fierce competition in attacking positions, with Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku and Phil Foden vying for roles — each offering a different tempo and rhythm to Guardiola’s possession-heavy blueprint.
