With less than two weeks before the transfer window closes, Rodrygo and Real Madrid appear to be headed towards a separation.

The 24-year-old attacker did not play a single minute last night in the team’s La Liga opener against CA Osasuna, with players like Brahim Diaz, Gonzalo Garcia, and Franco Mastantuono enjoying minutes ahead of him.

As such, everything suggests that Real Madrid are open to the idea of selling Rodrygo this summer, with the player seeing the Premier League as his preferred destination.

Manchester City no longer in contention

Manchester City had positioned themselves as a possible destination for Rodrygo in recent weeks, with Pep Guardiola a big admirer of the Brazilian international.

However, according to Sacha Tavolieri, the move is no longer on the table and that is unlikely to change unless anything drastic happens.

As per the report, Man City were indeed the closest to acting on their interest in Rodrygo, ready to launch a €100 million bid if Savinho left the Etihad Stadium for Tottenham.

That domino effect was blocked by City Football Group CEO Ferran Soriano, who vetoed the plan on financial balance grounds despite Guardiola’s backing.

Without that green light, the transfer stalled, and only a dramatic late twist would revive it.

Arsenal, Liverpool still options

However, the report states that other Preier League clubs remain in play.

Arsenal could move for Rodrygo, especially after the recent injury to Kai Havertz. However, the Gunners might have to sell first before approaching Real Madrid.

Liverpool, meanwhile, hold an interest but have set their sights elsewhere. Michael Edwards does not see Rodrygo as a priority, with the Reds locked in a push for Alexander Isak and considering Bradley Barcola as a stronger alternative on the wing.

Money will not be the obstacle – Liverpool are prepared to spend up to €140 million for Isak – but Rodrygo is, at best, third on their list.
