Manchester City have no plans to stop their winter transfer spree just yet and are reportedly eyeing a new midfielder before the window closes.
A dramatic slump in form saw the reigning Premier League champions tumble down to seventh in the standings - they have since recovered to fifth but trail Liverpool by 12 points having played a game more - while they continue to struggle in Europe and are outside the knockout qualification spots ahead of the final round of Champions League fixtures.
To address their struggles, City have been incredibly active in the transfer market. Centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov was signed from Lens in a deal worth up to £42m, before fellow defender Vitor Reis completed a £29.6m switch from Palmeiras, and the biggest splash came with a £59m agreement to sign forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Times state City are not stopping there, with club officials exploring a move for a new midfielder to try and bring in some fresh legs to their ageing core.
City have asked Juventus about re-signing Brazil international Douglas Luiz, who is also wanted by Chelsea, but the Serie A side's demands of a permanent transfer has already proven problematic in negotiations.
Another Brazilian, Ederson of Atalanta, is on City's radar, but Guardiola is expected to trial centre-backs John Stones and Manuel Akanji in midfield roles before deciding whether another new player should be signed.
There is also interest in Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso, but City's pursuit of the 24-year-old is expected to be pushed back until the summer.
