Man City charges: Would Liverpool be awarded more Premier League titles?

Former Liverpool defender, Jon Flanagan, has asked when the club are having their open-top bus parade for winning the 2013/14 Premier League title.
Back in 13/14, the Reds narrowly missed out on the title to Man City. It was a season remembered for Steven Gerrard's agonising slip against Chelsea with just three matches remaining that ultimately cost Brendan Rodgers' side.
However, Flanagan has cheekily suggested that Liverpool are due an open-top bus parade after the Premier League charged Manchester City with breaches of financial rules.
City have been charged with breaking financial fair play rules around 100 times over a nine-year period, which starts in 2009 and goes on until 2018. During that time, they won three Premier League titles - one of which being the 2013/14 campaign.
On Monday, the Premier League released a statement that read: "In accordance with Premier League Rule W.82.1, the Premier League confirms that it has today referred a number of alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules by Manchester City Football Club to a Commission under Premier League Rule W.3.4."
Given that this is an unprecedented situation, it's not quite known the extent of the punishments that Man City could receive.
Although Liverpool will be hoping one of the possible sanctions would be stripping them of all honours won during that time. With the club that finished second to them in those three title-winning seasons being awarded the trophy.
Manchester United would also be due two further Premier League titles.
That's what Flanagan is hoping anyway as he wasted no time in tweeting: "When is our open top bus parade? 13/14" after the news regarding Man City's charges broke.
Flanagan played 23 times in the Premier League for Liverpool during that season as they fell at the final hurdle with a loss to Chelsea and a draw against Crystal Palace in their penultimate game.
However, any hopes Liverpool - and Man Utd - have of having another title or two added to their tally looks fanciful.
According to the Independent's Miguel Delaney, that's unlikely to happen.
He tweeted: "Figures involved don't seem to think any prospective punishments would be retrospective or 'looking backwards' (ie stripping titles) but this is all described as 'unprecedented.'"
Apologies to Flanagan and Gerrard. It doesn't look as though you'll be having an open-top bus parade for wining the title in 2013/14.
