The 18-year-old sustained the injury during Wales’ UEFA Women’s Nations League clash against Denmark on May 30th.

Davies started the game but was taken off after just six minutes, as she was replaced by Southampton’s Alice Griffiths.

Her injury was assessed by the medical team at Manchester City and it has now been confirmed that she has ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament.

Man City and Wales confirm Mayzee Davies injury

Manchester City and Wales defender Mayzee Davies will miss Euro 2025 due to an injury after rupturing her ACL.

It is a blow for the talented defender, in what is Wales’ first major tournament on the women’s football scene.

The 18-year-old is yet to make her senior debut for Manchester City but was a regular in the club’s travelling squad.

She suffered the injury in what was her sixth international cap, having made her debut against Kosovo last year.

“She’ll now return to the City Football Academy to begin her rehabilitation under the guidance of the club’s medical team,” a Manchester City statement said.

“Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish Mayzee the very best in her recovery.”

Davies re-joined Manchester City last summer from neighbours Manchester United. During the 2024-25 season, she gained senior playing experience with FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Liverpool Feds.

When will Wales announce their Women’s Euro 2025 squad?

Wales manager Rhian Wilkinson will announce Wales’ Euro 2025 squad from an unusual setting on Thursday, June 19th.

She will announce the squad from Wales’ highest summit, on top of the Wyddfa (also known as Snowdon) mountain in Snowdonia.

A special press conference will be held at the summit which sits 1,085 metres above sea level.

Journalists attending the press conference will have to travel to and from the summit via the Snowdon Mountain Railway.

The injury to Mayzee Davies is a blow for Wales in the build-up to their first major tournament.

However, Wales have some recent injury boosts in the form of defender Rhiannon Roberts and goalkeeper Olivia Clark, who are both on course to be fit for the Euros.

The Euro 2025 fixture schedule sees Wales kick off their campaign against Netherlands on July 5th. They also face France and England in arguably the ‘group of death’.
