Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Norwegian sensation Sverre Halseth Nypan from Rosenborg, according to The Athletic.
The 18-year-old prodigy is set to join the Cityzens in a deal worth £12.5 million without any additional clauses or sell-on terms.
City believe Nypan has the potential to become a world-beater and have fended off serious competition from Premier League rivals to get a deal over the line.
Aston Villa and Arsenal were among clubs that registered interest in Nypan. Both clubs were understood to be front-runners, but City moved fast to snap him up.
City have agreed personal terms with Nypan. The talented youngster is expected to sign a long-term deal, keeping him associated with the club until the summer of 2030.
Once the final details have been sorted out, the next step for City will be to ship him out on loan to continue his development with more playing time and experience at a decent level.
Nypan’s move to City is a huge step in what many believe should be a fantastic career. He joined Rosenborg in January 2022 and has racked up 70 appearances, bagging 14 goals and 11 assists.
The teenager was already on the radar of several top clubs across Europe, but his breakout 2024/25 campaign forced them to ready their chequebooks.
He netted eight goals and seven assists in 28 league games. He created seven big chances, averaging 1.4 key passes per 90 minutes. He also won 53% of his ground duels.
Premier League clubs got a glimpse of Nypan’s outrageous talent when he put in a performance for the ages in Rosenborg’s 1-0 win against Manchester United in July 2024.
Nypan is a versatile and intelligent midfielder, capable of playing in multiple roles. He’s an attacking midfielder who has the adaptability and football IQ to play as a no.8.
He’s sharp in tight spaces, quick with the ball, and always picking out line-breaking passes.
Once the deal is finalised, Nypan will become City’s fifth summer signing after Rayan Ait Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and Marcus Bettinelli.
