Luka Modric signs contract extension with Real Madrid after rejecting mega Saudi League offer | OneFootball

Real Madrid star Luka Modric has signed a one-year contract extension with the club until 2024. The central midfielder will stay at the club for one more year.

The 37-year-old rejected a mega offer from Saudi Arabia to join the Saudi League. He preferred a stay at the Madrid club.

Modric joins midfield partner Toni Kroos in signing a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu. They may be aging but have plenty of knowledge and experience to pass on to the next generation.

Real Madrid have Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde, Jude Bellingham, and Dani Ceballos as midfield options. Kroos and Modric will be the standard bearers.

The Croatian joined Los Blancos in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur and has since established himself as one of the best midfielders in history despite the Spanish press labeling him a flop after his debut campaign.

The Zadar-born midfield maestro has since made 488 appearances for Real Madrid, collecting 23 trophies.

Modric has won five Champions League, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey, and four Spanish Super Cups.

Also, he has picked up several individual awards. He was the 2017/18 UEFA Player of the Year and won the 2017 Club World Cup Golden Ball.

Furthermore, this season he made it into the FIFA/FIFPro World XI for the sixth time in his career. He won the Golden Ball at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the Bronze Ball at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In addition, he picked up one of the most prestigious individual awards in football – the Ballon d’Or. He also won the 2018 FIFA The Best Player of the Year Award.

Modric will hope to continue to give his best for Madrid after 11 years. Despite showing signs of slowing down, there is still a world-class footballer within, ready to deliver top-class performances.
