Serie A kicked off on Saturday and we witnessed our first major upset, as newly promoted Cremonese beat Milan. Despite that Rossoneri’s defeat, it became clear that Luka Modric is still very much capable of making an impact.
Having arrived on a free transfer in the summer, there were doubts if the 39-year-old can contribute effectively at Milan. But it took him only some minutes to dispel these question marks, as Modric was arguably Milan’s best player at the San Siro.
Federico Bonazzoli’s overhead kick did steal the show, but the Croatian dictated play efficiently for the Rossoneri, as he combined well with those around him and there was some really promising moments of quick link-up in the heart of the park.
As per FotMob, Modric also created three chances – the second most in the entire game behind Alexis Saelemaekers. He played 76 passes – the fourth most in the game and played a key role in constructing attacks in a very precise and composed manner.
He also dropped in as the deepest midfielder many times and this gave Milan the platform to keep hold of possession and build attacks.
The ex-Real Madrid man didn’t last the entire game but it was enough to suggest that he will have a major role to play in the campaign and Modric isn’t done yet.
