Real Madrid star Luka Modrić has on Saturday secured for himself a fresh piece of history.

As much, of course, comes with Carlo Ancelotti’s troops currently locked in action, in a La Liga meeting with relegation-battling Cádiz.

Sandwiched between the two legs of the club’s Champions League semi-final showdown with Bayern Munich, the Real coaching staff, as expected, opted to heavily rotate their XI once more.

And one beneficiary of as much came in the form of the aforementioned Modrić.

Joining the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos in a new-look Blancos midfield, the Croatian was afforded his fourth successive league start.

And, in the process, Modrić made history.

As revealed by Spanish outlet COPE, the former Tottenham standout, who will turn 39 later this year, has on Saturday become the oldest player to ever take to the pitch for Real Madrid in a La Liga fixture.
