Paris Saint-Germain were given a scare by Aston Villa on Tuesday, despite the former losing on the night. However, Luis Enrique didn’t have too many words of praise for his compatriot and opposite number, Unai Emery.

Les Parisiens raced into a two-goal lead on the night to go 5-1 up on aggregate, however, they then proceeded to collapse. Ceding control of the match, Youri Tielemans got one back before half-tim,e before John McGinn and Ezri Konsa netted a quickfire double to give Aston Villa the lead on the night.

The Premier League side had plenty of chances to level the tie on aggregate but could not take them and PSG narrowly went through to the semi-finals 5-4 on aggregate. “It is a match that lived up to all expectations,” began Luis Enrique in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.

The Spaniard added, “I don’t think that we have ever been dominated so much.” However, Luis Enrique didn’t have too many words of praise for Emery. “You have just shaken Emery’s hand. I suppose he deserves some words for what he has done with Aston Villa, to get to this point where they were one goal away from forcing extra-time,” asked the interviewer on Movistar +.

The PSG manager responded, “Err, well… no. I deserve as much recognition as him, just like all of the other Spanish managers in the world who are trying to promote our ideas. What interests us is competing.”
