Despite all the criticism he’s dealt with, Luis Enrique believes he’s putting together a great campaign so far. Ahead of their Ligue 1 win over Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday, the Paris-Saint Germain boss was asked to assess this season.
“There has been criticism, lies even sometimes, journalists eh, not supporters, but I am satisfied with this season,” he said in the lead-up to that match.
“Statistically speaking, it’s the best of my career,” says the man who guided Barcelona to a UEFA Champions League title in 2014-15.
In the opening 15 matchdays of this Ligue 1 campaign, Enrique’s side have 37 points, one more than a season ago at this stage.
Their European form, however, tells a different story, with Les Parisiens in danger of missing the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League, currently in 25th, a point below the knockout line.
When asked about his side’s struggles in Europe this season, Luis Enrique said that whether it’s merited or not, it’s the situation they are faced with, and they are focused on turning that situation in their favour.
The Spaniard was asked about varying his game, something he stands by, calling it necessary to always vary the game depending on the opponent.
