Luis Enrique: "I'm hoping to repay the fans' unconditional support" | OneFootball

The Paris Saint-Germain manager answered questions from PSG TV and the media ahead of his side’s game against Montpellier HSC on Matchday 2 of Ligue 1, which kicks off at 20:45 CET tomorrow at the Parc des Princes.

ON MONTPELLIER

'Montpellier still have the same manager as last season and a similar squad to last season. They're a team that created problems for us, both at home and away. It's difficult because the season has only just begun, but we want to win tomorrow, and we hope that our fans can enjoy it. That's our aim.'

ON RETURNING TO THE PARC DES PRINCES

'I'm hoping to repay the fans' unconditional support, which we saw in the first game of the season, away from home. I want to treat them to good football, even though there are also hard times in a season. Together, though, we're stronger.'

ON THE absence OF Gonçalo Ramos

'Unfortunately, Gonçalo is injured. It's sad, but it doesn't change anything for the rest of the team; I have huge faith in every player in our squad. We'll keep an eye out until the end of the transfer window, but it's very hard to find an opportunity that will strengthen the team. I think that we've already had a great window, and we're not in any rush, but we'll keep ourselves open in case a player really can improve the quality of our squad.'

ON THE CENTRE-FORWARD POSITION

'The way in which we play depends on the spaces that are available to us. Usually, centre-forwards don't have many touches of the ball, as they're mainly there to finish moves off. I think that we adapt to the two profiles that we have available: number nines like Randal Kolo Muani and Gonçalo Ramos, who are primarily goalscorers, and players like Lee Kang-in and Marco Asensio. Bradley Barcola can also play in that position, as he did when he was younger.'

ON THE recent signings being young

'We've looked for reinforcements in the transfer window, but we already had a good squad last season. I don't look at the ages of our signings but at their performances and where we can improve.'

ON Désiré Doué

'It's obviously easier for a French player to adapt because there isn't that language barrier. I think that Désiré is a versatile player who can play either in attack or in midfield and either centrally or out wide. He's a real reinforcement, and I'm really happy that he wanted to join us.'
