The Paris Saint-Germain coach answered questions from PSG TV and the media ahead of the Coupe de France Round of 32 clash with RC Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Sunday 22 December (21:00). Excerpts.
'Lens are a good opponent, a team that plays intense, attractive football. We know this team well, and this stadium breathes football. The Coupe de France is always full of surprises, so we need to stay focused. We're going to face a rival who could win the cup. That's how the draw works. It's a great competition that we want to win. Facing teams of this level in the first round of a cup competition is unusual. So I don't think I'll be making any changes. I have plenty of options. We're title holders, so we want to win on Sunday.'
'How we manage things will depend on the calendar. From January onwards, if we continue in every competition, it will be very demanding. There's one match left to decide what we're going to do during that period. It will also depend on the players and their needs. Some need a rest, others need to continue their efforts, and others need to train almost every day. It's all individual. I like players to be able to rest. It's all about switching off so that they can work as hard as possible for the second half of the season. It depends on each individual.'
'Gigio is fine, he's not in any pain. It's an injury with no major repercussions. He was very lucky that the impact didn't hit his eyes. We've all seen the images, there's no need to comment on them.'
'I'm very happy with the squad. The best thing to do during any transfer window is to pay attention. It's difficult to improve our squad. We want to develop our young talent, and we have a very good squad. There's no urgency, no need at the moment, but if there's an opportunity to improve the squad, fine. But we have a great team.'
