On the eve of the UEFA Champions League Matchday 8 game against VfB Stuttgart, this Wednesday January 29 at 9pm at the Stuttgart Arena, the Paris Saint-Germain defender spoke at the pre-match press conference.
“I remember this strength of the team to turn the situation around by scoring a goal, then two, then going on to get the win. It was a huge game and it should give us even more strength to come and get the win here in Stuttgart tomorrow.”
“It's never easy to come back after an injury like that, but I put all the ingredients in place to come back as well as possible. If I'm here and training with the team every day, then I'm fit. I feel ready, and I want to give my all for the team.
I wanted to play again. It's hard to be on your own for 7 months. I've already had this injury to my other knee, so there are pains that I knew about and that were part of the process of getting back on the pitch. I signed for Paris Saint-Germain for several reasons, and one of them is to be able to play these Champions League matches.”
“I think the coach's method is extraordinary. It allows all the players to prepare mentally to start the match. Sometimes, when you know you're not going to play, you give a little less in training, which isn't the case here. Everyone's at 100%, and then it's up to the coach to decide who's going to start the match and who's not.”
“We're not qualified yet. We'll have to be ready from the start and give it our all, because we want to reach the next stage. Whether it's Stuttgart or us, I think both teams want to win. That's why we've come here, and I know they'll want to win in front of their fans too. It's going to be an open game with a lot of intensity.”
“I've already played here with my former club. We know that here in Germany there's always a great atmosphere in the stadiums, with the fans always there. We have to expect a tough match with a lot of intensity, especially at the start. We're going to have to be ready because it's going to be a very competitive game.”
“Everyone knows that tomorrow's game is vital. We have to come here to win, which is one of our objectives for the season. If there's a bit of pressure at kick-off, we'll have to try and relax and play the way we know how. But today, everyone is ready and wants to play this match.”
