Championship club London City Lionesses have made four significant announcements as they look to secure promotion to the Women’s Super League.

Although the club was formed in 2019, American businesswoman Michele Kang acquired them in December 2023 to add to her portfolio, which includes French side Lyon and the NWSL’s Washington Spirit.

Now, the London City Lionesses are targeting a place in the top flight of women’s football in England with some significant investment and changes both on and off the pitch. The first announcement included the confirmation of new manager Jocelyn Precheur. The 42-year-old was previously in charge of Premiere Ligue side Paris Saint-Germain, but has now signed a three-year contract with the London club.

“Since I met Michele last season, I have admired her vision and dedication to the women’s game,” the Frenchman told the club website. “The high-performance culture of winning she is building across her teams was a key part in my decision to join London City.

“I can’t wait to get started next week and meet the players and team staff.”

In what can only be described as a major coup for the Championship club, they then confirmed the signing of Sweden international Kosovare Asllani on a two-year contract. The 34-year-old signs on a free transfer from AC Milan.

Asllani boasts a wealth of experience in the women’s game, having played for the likes of PSG and Real Madrid prior to her move to Italy. She also has WSL experience with Manchester City, where she spent several months and won a league title.

The forward’s two year contract includes the option of a third year and she will wear the number nine shirt.

“I am delighted to join London City Lionesses and look forward to contributing towards the team’s success” Asllani told the club website. “I am so excited by the team’s aspirations and can’t wait to meet my teammates and the fans.

"We have the opportunity to write a new chapter in the Club's history and our objective this season is to turn Michele's vision into reality on the field."

A new home

The final two announcements from the club confirmed they have secured a new home for the upcoming 2024/25 season. London City Lionesses will move to a new training facility with immediate effect, where the new 23-acre base will house both their first team and academy squads.

It is set to undergo renovations and will soon house a world-class performance gym, newly-fitted changing facilities, upgraded office suites, two high-quality grass training pitches, and a full-sized artificial pitch.

The move comes at the same time as a relocation to Hayes Lane, the home of Bromley FC, next season. The 5,000-capacity stadium is an upgrade on Princes Park, where the club previously played their home fixtures, as they look to build on improved attendance figures.
