Mohamed Salah has been named the Premier League Player of the Year following a record-breaking season in which he scored 28 goals and guided Liverpool to their second Premier League title.

The Egyptian forward becomes only the fifth player in league history to win the award more than once, joining an elite group that includes Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne, and Nemanja Vidic.

Liverpool wrapped up the title back in April with a thumping 5-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield but will lift the trophy in their final game against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Reds may already have the title in the bag, but Salah, who has been tipped to win the Ballon d’Or, still has a chance to make history.

Salah has notched 28 goals and 18 assists this season, making him the Premier League’s most effective attacking player by a country mile.

He needs two more goal contributions to eclipse the long-standing single-season record of 47 goals and assists held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole in a 42-game season.

Salah has already set a new record for a 38-game season but will have his eye on another spot in the history books in the final fixture against Palace.

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is Salah’s closest challenger, although his 23 goals and six assists, albeit an outstanding achievement, pales in comparison to Salah’s outrageous numbers.

It’ll take a herculean effort from the highly rated Swedish striker to prevent Salah from scooping up the Golden Boot and Playmaker of the Season awards.

Salah’s individual brilliance has been matched only by Liverpool’s collective success.

Earlier this season, he became the fifth-highest goalscorer in Premier League history. His goal against Tottenham was number 185, moving him ahead of Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero.

Salah has extended his stay at Liverpool for another two years despite persistent interest from Al Hilal and now has his eye set on winning more silverware with the Reds.
