Liverpool are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table but issues off the pitch continue to bother them.
The Reds have yet to offer new contracts to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, and they could leave the club for free next summer.
Salah has stated clearly that he is disappointed that the club have not offered him a new deal, and he feels he is likely to leave at the end of the season.
While Alexander-Arnold has remained tight-lipped on his future, many pundits feel he will definitely leave the club to join Real Madrid.
Arne Slot appears pretty cool about the situation, and Liverpool are probably working behind the scenes to sign a new right-back if Alexander-Arnold leaves.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Ajax defender Devyne Rensch.
The 21-year-old Dutch defender plays as a right-back, and he is ‘highly valued’. Liverpool have made initial contact with the Eredivisie club to learn about his situation.
Rensch has a contract at Ajax until the end of the season. While he has been offered a new deal by the Dutch giants, he has yet to commit his future.
Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and La Liga leaders Barcelona are also interested in signing Rensch.
The young defender has already made two senior appearances for the Netherlands senior side.
He has started in all nine Eredivisie games and played in the Europa League this season.
Rensch averages 2.1 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 1.1 shots per game in the Dutch league. He is strong with his passing.
He is young, fast, and powerful and could develop further under Slot’s tutelage. Liverpool have a strong Dutch contingent at the club, which would help him settle.
Rensch could find it hard to turn down the opportunity to play for Liverpool if they make a formal move.
However, any potential move for Rensch can only take place if the club fail to keep hold of Alexander-Arnold.
