Liverpool back in for Anthony Gordon

And if Diaz leaves - either to Barcelona or Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia - then it could well open up a gap in the squad for a new, elite left-wing option.

Recent reports have begun to circulate involving Anthony Gordon - the Newcastle winger who came so close to joining the Reds last summer.

Newcastle’s precarious financial situation last year due to PSR concerns meant the 24-year-old could have been sacrificed but the picture looks a lot rosier for Eddie Howe’s side this summer.

The Magpies have qualified for the Champions League once again and Gordon’s contract has been extended.

Liverpool are said to be interested in bringing Gordon back to Merseyside - with the forward spending time with the club as a youth before embarking on his professional career with Everton.

Moreover, Gordon is known to be close to fellow Scouser Curtis Jones, and this would be an incredible deal if it went through. And now comes a report suggesting that Newcastle’s asking price for Gordon will be between £75m and £80m this summer.

Luis Diaz out, Anthony Gordon in?

That is according to Football Insider, which claims Gordon is Liverpool’s focus if Diaz departs.

“Gordon came very close to joining Liverpool last summer when Newcastle were forced to consider selling to improve their financial situation,” a report reads.

“More recently, Luis Diaz has been linked with a move away from Anfield, and there is a growing belief that the England international is the top target to replace him if he is sold.

“He signed a long-term deal last October after all that speculation over his future, so to convince Newcastle to sell you’d be looking at £75-80million.”

Gordon scored six Premier League goals and added six more assists to his tally for Newcastle last season.
