Liverpool to monitor Luke Chambers before loaning him to Bayer Leverkusen | OneFootball

As reported by Kicker, Liverpool will monitor the progress made by Luke Chambers during pre-season, before a decision is made on his future. Bayer Leverkusen will, therefore, have to be patient before they can negotiate with the English side over a potential deal for the full-back.

The Werkself have expressed an interest in Chambers for a significant amount of time now, and while reports had suggested that a permanent move could be possible, it now looks likely that if he is to depart Merseyside it will only be for a season-long loan. Liverpool will not allow a future purchase option to be included in the contract, as they consider Chambers as a future talent.

The 19-year-old left-back spent a six-month spell on loan at Kilmarnock last season where he helped the side narrowly avoid relegation from the Scottish Premiership. Chambers’ versatility is a standout feature of his game, with the left-back proving to be just as efficient in the centre of defence and at left-midfield.

A move would undoubtedly see Chambers develop under one of Europe’s most exciting managers in Xabi Alonso. However, with Spanish left-back Grimaldo set to receive the majority of minutes for the Werkself, Chambers will have to rely on his versatility if he is to force his way into the side.
