Just 13 games into the season, Premier League official Jarred Gillett is preparing for involvement in his fifth Arsenal match.
The Premier League have confirmed their appointments of officials for Wednesday’s game between Arsenal and Manchester United, with Sam Barrott refereeing the clash.
Lee Betts and Ian Hussin will act as Barrott’s assistants, with Rob Jones as fourth official. Gillett will then be on VAR, alongside assistant VAR Adam Nunn.

Gillett has already had four Arsenal games so far this season, refereeing Arsenal at home to Wolves and away to Spurs, and working on VAR for Arsenal’s away trips to Bournemouth and Newcastle United.
Those fixtures weren’t short of controversial incidents, with Yerson Mosquera avoiding a red card for choking Kai Havertz in the Wolves game and Gillett then recommending a red card for William Saliba against Bournemouth.
It’s strange that Gillett has been on so many Arsenal games, and even stranger considering he’s a Liverpool fan.
Gillett is never appointed to Liverpool games, for good reason. But the Gunners are currently the closest team to the league leaders, so you’d think that would be a conflict of interest too.

The one upside on this occasion is that Arsenal are facing Manchester United. At least that’s one club a Liverpool fan is unlikely to give special treatment to, even against Arsenal.
