Liverpool head into tonight’s Champions League clash with PSG at Anfield with a significant boost—Cody Gakpo is back in contention. The Dutch forward missed the first leg in Paris, where the Reds secured a 1-0 victory, as well as Saturday’s 3-1 win over Southampton. However, Gakpo trained with the squad on Monday, raising hopes of his involvement.
Arne Slot confirmed his return, saying: “Yeah, he will be in the squad. Today he was training for the first time.” While his availability is a positive sign, a full 90 minutes might be a step too soon. Having not started since last month’s Merseyside derby against Everton, Gakpo could begin on the bench as Slot looks to manage his minutes carefully.
Darwin Nunez was on target in Liverpool’s win over Southampton and will be eager to keep his starting place. His decisive play also contributed to Harvey Elliott’s winner in Paris, which could give him an edge over Diogo Jota.
Slot might also consider a tactical tweak by opting for a fluid attack without a traditional centre-forward. This strategy proved successful in the 2-0 victory over Manchester City, with Curtis Jones offering control in midfield.
Liverpool are expected to recall several key names to the starting lineup. Andy Robertson and Alexis Mac Allister were rested against Southampton but are likely to return. Dominik Szoboszlai has also shaken off any injury concerns and should feature.
Meanwhile, Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley, and Tyler Morton remain sidelined.
