PSG vs Liverpool: Team News, Predicted Lineup, and Injury Updates for Champions League Clash

Liverpool face a critical Champions League showdown against Paris Saint-Germain, but their preparations have been thrown into uncertainty with fresh doubts over Cody Gakpo’s availability. As Arne Slot’s side heads to Paris, crucial selection decisions must be made to navigate injuries and suspensions.

Gakpo Doubt Leaves Slot with Selection Headache

Liverpool’s attacking setup may need a reshuffle as Cody Gakpo remains a doubt for the clash at Parc des Princes. The Dutch forward had only just returned from injury but was absent from Tuesday’s open training session, raising concerns about his fitness.

Gakpo was included in Liverpool’s 24-man travelling squad, but Slot admitted his availability remains uncertain.

“He [Gakpo] was close to being ready to play again, but unfortunately yesterday I think it was, he had to block a shot so he felt a bit of pain again,” Slot revealed in his pre-match press conference.

“We took him with us to judge how he is tomorrow, if he can be part of the squad, yes or no. But it will be a close call.”

Should Gakpo be ruled out, Diogo Jota is the likely candidate to spearhead Liverpool’s attack, with Luis Díaz providing width. Darwin Núñez could also come into contention, while Slot has previously experimented with using Curtis Jones in an advanced role in challenging away fixtures.

Defensive Injuries Add to Liverpool’s Challenges

Liverpool’s backline is already stretched with Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez unavailable. Bradley is sidelined for several weeks due to a hamstring issue, while Gomez faces at least two months out following thigh surgery.

The defensive situation is further complicated by the risk of suspensions. Ibrahima Konaté, Alexis Mac Allister, Andy Robertson, and Harvey Elliott are all one booking away from a one-match ban, which could impact their availability for the return leg at Anfield.

Although neither would have featured in Slot’s plans for this game, Tyler Morton remains out with a shoulder injury, and young defender Amara Nallo is suspended.

Predicted Liverpool XI vs PSG

With Gakpo’s fitness still uncertain, Liverpool’s potential starting lineup for the PSG clash is shaping up as follows:

Predicted XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Díaz; Jota

Injured: Bradley (hamstring), Gomez (hamstring), Morton (shoulder)
