Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona is uncertain. After this season, the Dutch midfielder will have just one year remaining on his deal, and unless he agrees to an extension this summer, he could be on his way out.
In October, SPORT reported that top clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, are monitoring de Jong’s situation.
While the midfielder has expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona, PSG’s history of signing players from the Catalan club makes them a potential destination for him next summer.
SPORT recently revealed that Barcelona have approached de Jong about renewing his contract, aiming to prevent key players from entering the final year of their deals. Early talks are said to be going well, and the club remains hopeful of securing extensions before the summer.
However, according to journalist Miguel Rico, Barcelona seems to have lost confidence in de Jong’s performances on the pitch. With their contract offer now expired, it appears increasingly likely he could leave for a relatively “modest” fee in the near future.

TEAMtalk reported on Friday, citing sources, that Liverpool have shown genuine interest in signing de Jong. However, they will need the Barcelona star to lower his wage demands before the transfer can go ahead.
The Netherlands standout’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2026, but talks over a potential renewal have stalled.
If the situation doesn’t change in the next few weeks, the La Liga club will look to sell him in the summer to both cash in and reduce their wage bill. Liverpool are now on alert, as Barcelona are willing to consider offers of around €35 million.
