Liverpool remain in pole position to sign Marc Guéhi this summer, with Chelsea focusing on other targets despite their current shortage at the back, The Telegraph reports.
The 25-year-old England international is in the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace and has been tracked by Liverpool for some time. He will line up against Arne Slot’s side in Sunday’s Community Shield at Wembley.
Chelsea, where Guéhi began his career, are not actively pursuing a return, despite Levi Colwill's recent ACL injury.
Newcastle United - who were close to a £70 million deal last summer - are also prioritising other reinforcements instead, which in theory gives Liverpool a clear run at the defender should they step up their interest before the transfer deadline.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner, also entering the last year of his contract, has acknowledged uncertainty over Guéhi’s future but stressed his importance to the team. The defender was valued at around £65m last summer, though that figure could fall with his contract running down.
Guéhi started for England at Euro 2024 last year and remains a key part of Palace’s plans, but his situation will be closely watched in the final weeks of the transfer window.
