Liverpool are edging closer to completing a landmark deal for Florian Wirtz, with Sky Sports Germany reporting that the club is ready to significantly raise their offer for the Bayer Leverkusen playmaker. The proposed fee, now approaching €140 million and potentially rising towards €150 million, would mark not only Liverpool’s most expensive signing but also the highest transfer fee ever paid by a Premier League club.
Discussions between Liverpool and Leverkusen have been ongoing for more than a week, and while initial proposals from Anfield were reportedly around €100 million, the tone has changed. The urgency to secure Wirtz now rather than face intense competition next summer has grown significantly.

“Liverpool are expected to make a new offer for Wirtz that seals the deal for at least €140m,” reports Sky Sports Germany, suggesting the Reds are serious about closing a historic deal swiftly.
The logic behind Liverpool’s aggression is clear. Miss out on Wirtz this summer, and the queue for his signature could include Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich in 2025. That looming threat appears to have driven Liverpool to break character, moving away from their traditionally cautious stance on fees and towards a more assertive model under Arne Slot.

It is believed that the sticking point remains the structure of the deal. Leverkusen want a large portion of the fee paid up front with minimal add-ons. Liverpool had initially hoped to swing the balance the other way. Now, compromise is on the table, and while it’s unclear how much of the reported €140m will be guaranteed, the shift is tangible.
Wirtz is considered central to Liverpool’s summer rebuild. With Jeremie Frimpong already secured and other targets in motion, the German international is viewed as the creative fulcrum around which Slot intends to build.

Should the improved offer be accepted, expect this move to progress rapidly. The intent is clear. Now it’s up to Leverkusen to decide if this is enough.
Florian Wirtz isn’t just a good player—he’s the kind of game-changing talent that lifts a side from contenders to champions. And if Liverpool are truly ready to put €140m or more on the table, then we’re watching the club finally evolve its transfer philosophy into something more decisive, more ambitious, and frankly, more fitting for a club of its stature.
Yes, it’s a record fee. Yes, it’s a huge gamble. But this is a player who could define the next generation at Anfield. Creative, fearless, and already a Champions League standout at 21. Wirtz is worth pushing boundaries for.
For once, the idea of Liverpool outmuscling Europe’s elite doesn’t feel like fantasy. It feels like strategy. Slot’s vision needs a centrepiece, and Wirtz is it.
If this deal gets done in the next few days, it will send a message across Europe: Liverpool are not rebuilding—they’re reloading.
