Liverpool have now succeeded in their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike.
The Premier League club reaching agreement on a transfer fee with Eintracht Frankfurt.
This news coming via an exclusive from Sebastian Stafford-Bloor and David Ornstein reporting for The Athletic on Monday morning.
The Athletic report that their sources have told them that it is a transfer fee totalling £79m, with Ekitike to sign a six year contract.
That split between an initial fee of £69m, with future add-ons of £10m.
With the transfer fee now agreed and personal terms not expected to be a problem, the plan is for Hugo Ekitike to fly out and link up with the Liverpool squad in Hong Kong, after the medical and final paperwork is completed.
At the weekend, The Athletic reported that Eintracht Frankfurt were hoping to exceed the £82.3m deal when Randal Kolo Muani left for PSG in 2023.
The Bundesliga club apparently having though to accept a £79m deal slightly below that record deal agreed with PSG two years ago.
At the weekend, The Athletic also revealed in their report, that the Newcastle United offer for Hugo Ekitike had been for £65m, not the £69.5m as originally claimed.
I think Ekitike would have been a decent signing playing second fiddle to Alexander Isak, even if £65m is very pricey considering the 23 year old has only had one good full season playing in the weaker Bundesliga, scoring 15 goals last season.
However, for Liverpool to commit to just under £80m simply points to how desperate the Anfield club have been for a new first choice striker.
