Salah Eyes Another Record as Liverpool Prepare for Brighton Clash

Landmark occasion for Liverpool’s Egyptian icon

Mohamed Salah stands on the cusp of another milestone in a Liverpool shirt, and true to form, the Egyptian forward is primed to chase history with the same precision he has shown throughout his Anfield career.

As confirmed by LFC, “The Reds’ No.11 is set to play his 300th game in the competition at Amex Stadium on Monday night – alongside his 400th in total for Liverpool – and would become the fourth African player to reach that landmark, after Kolo Toure (353), Wilfried Zaha (305) and Jordan Ayew (303).”

That stat alone is a testament to Salah’s enduring brilliance, but the numbers don’t stop there. If he finds the net against Brighton, he will break the Premier League record for the most away goals in a single campaign, currently tied with Harry Kane (2022-23) and Kevin Phillips (1999-00) on 16.

Salah’s 2024-25 season has been formidable:

  • Time Played – 4317 minutes
  • Goals – 33
  • Appearances – 50

And yet, it’s not just about individual brilliance. Liverpool are seeking momentum as they look to end their title-winning campaign with poise and points.

Brighton challenge a test of focus

Liverpool’s recent record against Brighton has improved, winning their last two league meetings after just one victory in the previous seven. Their dominance over Brighton historically is well documented: 17 wins in 31 league meetings and 23 victories from 42 encounters in all competitions.

Brighton, however, have shown resilience at home – losing only once in their last seven league fixtures at the Amex. Their squad is bolstered ahead of Monday’s match with the return of key players including Joao Pedro, Lewis Dunk, Igor Julio, and Joel Veltman.

But Liverpool’s away form has wobbled slightly, with two defeats in their last three on the road—matching the total from their previous 30 such fixtures. Still, they are unbeaten in their last five Monday fixtures in the Premier League (W4 D1) and have not lost their final away league match in any of the last six seasons.

Slot eyes further history of his own

While Salah hunts personal records, Arne Slot is chasing a place in club history. A win in either of Liverpool’s final two matches will give him the highest win percentage of any Liverpool manager in their first full season since 1894. He currently stands at an impressive 70.37%.

Two more victories and Slot’s side will surpass Kenny Dalglish’s 1985-86 points haul of 88. Liverpool can hit 89 points—another small statement in a season of renewal and silverware.

As LFC reminded, “The last time Liverpool won a third successive league game against Brighton was in 2020 – in their third game after clinching the title. History could repeat itself on Monday.”

And perhaps most fittingly, Liverpool have never lost a match played on 19 May—winning five and drawing one of six previous fixtures on that date. A favourable omen for a team that has turned records into routine.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

There’s something poetic about Mohamed Salah marking his 400th Liverpool appearance on the south coast, with another goalscoring record within reach. Supporters have long run out of superlatives for the No.11, but his hunger to etch his name further into history never wanes.

For Liverpool fans, this match may feel like a victory lap—but the performance will matter. It’s an opportunity to reinforce the authority of the champions, silence the doubters of their away form, and give Arne Slot the finish his season deserves.

Slot, calm and clinical in his approach, has instilled a fresh rhythm to the team. If he reaches 89 points, few would argue against this being one of the most impressive debut seasons in modern Liverpool history. His record stands alongside some of the best, and his connection with players like Salah and Van Dijk shows that the dressing room is in harmony.

For many, the Brighton match is more than a formality. It’s a chapter that underlines consistency, celebrates class, and perhaps offers a glimpse of what this Slot-led Liverpool side will chase next: legacy-defining dominance.
