Liverpool are just £5m away from agreeing a transfer. It's one the Reds sorely need to make happen, too.
Liverpool are in desperate need of a new centre-back. That was apparent on Sunday in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace.
The Reds saw Ibrahima Konate go down in the first half for what ultimately turned out to be a minor eye injury. It sparked a moment of panic, however - who would come on if he had to go off?

Joe Gomez was injured and his track record there unfortunately prevents him from being a reliable option for Liverpool. Jarell Quansah, last season's other choice, has left for Bayer Leverkusen without a replacement.
So who comes on? Wataru Endo? Andy Robertson?
The squad is now short on centre-backs. Something needs to change there and thankfully, it is. Liverpool are currently pushing to sign at least one centre-back, with both Marc Guehi and Giovanni Leoni shortlisted.
Deals for both are in the works and it sounds as though one might be close.
Liverpool are apparently just £5m away from agreeing a fee for Marc Guehi. Crystal Palace are eager to cash-in on the defender as he now has slightly under one year left on his contract.
Now, the source for this is Indykaila. Which makes this a first for Anfield Watch (and me) as Indy hasn't been considered a trusted source before.
Then this transfer window happened and he keeps getting things right. David Ornstein credited Indy on his Carlos Baleba to Manchester United story.
Now the journalist has spoken on camera about Indy with The Sports Agents podcast, saying that for everything he's been told, Indy is in fact legitimate. So it appears Indy does in fact know what he's talking about.
And in that case, Liverpool appear to be close to an agreement with Palace. Of course, that's not the entire deal.
The club still need to convince Guehi himself and that might not be entirely simple with Konate still at the club. He's not going to leave Palace a year early just to sit on the bench every week.
We'll have to wait and see how that one goes, then. But it appears we're close.
