Liverpool have got a number of young stars out on loan this season with the likes of Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak and Lewis Koumas among the potential first-team candidates getting minutes elsewhere this term.

Bajcetic moved to Red Bull Salzburg to work under former Liverpool coach Pep Lijnders while Doak has moved to Middlesbrough, where he has been in impressive form.

Koumas hit the ground running in a Stoke City shirt while the likes of Calvin Ramsay, Owen Beck, Luke Chambers and Kaide Gordon are also spending time away from their parent club.

Another player who secured a Championship loan move in summer was left-back Calum Scanlon.

The 19-year-old was plucked from Birmingham City back in 2020 for a fee of around £500,000. He provided cover last season with injuries hitting both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.

The England youth international has even tasted first-team minutes for the Reds, playing twice in the Europa League against Toulouse and Union SG in the group stages last term.

He was also on the bench for Premier League games against Everton and Brentford before the turn of the year and, most recently, for the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Southampton in February.

Scanlon moved to Millwall on a season-long loan deal towards the end of August and made his debut in the second tier against Luton Town last weekend.

However, he wasn't in the first-team squad for the midweek game against Queens Park Rangers and now manager Neil Harris has confirmed another injury blow for the youngster.

“He’s got a stress fracture in his back, which is a recurring injury for him,” the Millwall manager told Southwark News. “It’s unfortunate. We’re very disappointed to lose him because he was something completely different to what we’ve got in the squad as a very attacking-minded full-back.

“He’s gone back to Liverpool to be treated in the short and mid-term. He’s going to be rescanned at six weeks and then we’ll have a better idea how long he’s going to be, whether he’s going to be back soon after that, or whether it’s going to be an extended period. Anything past that is not a discussion at the moment.”

It's unknown how long Scanlon will be out for after suffering his latest injury.
