However, Liverpool might have to look elsewhere for their opening games of the season.

Liverpool goalkeeper Rachael Laws suffers hand injury in training

Liverpool have confirmed the news that Rachael Laws has suffered a hand injury during training ahead of the new season.

Laws missed Liverpool’s 1-0 pre-season defeat to Durham at the weekend.

She will also miss their friendly with Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village on Wednesday night.

In a statement, the club wrote: “The Liverpool FC Women goalkeeper sustained a hand injury during a training session and is expected to be out of action for the next few weeks.”

With the new season just over two weeks away, it is expected that Laws will miss the start of the season.

Which games could Rachael Laws miss with injury?

Liverpool start their Women’s Super League season on September 7th with a Merseyside Derby clash against Everton.

The Reds will hope Laws will be available for their clash with Leicester City on September 14th or away at Aston Villa a week later.

Their opening month of the season also includes a League Cup tie with Sunderland on September 24th, and a home meeting with Manchester United four days later.

Who could fill in for Rachael Laws at Liverpool?

The most likely player who will step in for Rachael Laws if she misses the start of the season is summer signing Rafaela Borggrafe.

The German started for Liverpool in their defeat to WSL2 side Durham on Sunday. She was replaced after the hour mark by Faye Kirby, who joined from Everton in 2022.

She decided for a change of scenery, leaving the club at the end of her contract, before making the move to Merseyside.

After joining the club, she said: “This is a big club with a big history. I want to be part of that – we never walk alone. I want to have fun playing football and [I] am so happy to now be a part of the Liverpool family.”

She added: “I’m happy – and a little bit sad to leave friends – but I want to get better and I think this is the best place for me to be here to work hard, get better and make the next big steps for my career.”
