Ibrahima Konate has emerged as a key target for Real Madrid, thanks to his contract situation at Liverpool.

The French international’s current deal with the Premier League champions runs out in 2026 and so far an agreement has not been reached over an extension.

Real Madrid, thus, have made their interest known. The initial plan had been for them to move for him next summer when he becomes a free agent.

However, amid growing concerns about the current defensive roster, Real Madrid are considering making an attempt to sign Konate this summer itself.

However, according to journalist Abdellah Boulma, Konate is happy at Liverpool and wants to stay put at Anfield.

Contract negotiations are progressing between the two parties, although they are yet to reach a full agreement.

This is in complete contradiction to reports from Spanish media, which suggested that Konate had his sights set on a move to Real Madrid, either this summer or the next.

So much so that, it has even been claimed that the French centre-back has rejected two contract offers from Liverpool, forcing the Reds hand to consider selling him now instead of risking losing him for free in 2026.

However, the update from Abdellah Boulma states otherwise, claiming that Konate is happy at Liverpool and is keen on continuing with the Premier League champions.

If true, the chances of a transfer to Real Madrid, at least this summer, appear extremely slim, unless contract negotiations between Konate and Liverpool end up falling through completely, forcing the Reds to consider his sale.
