Liverpool boss Slot hails Nunez reaction after work-rate criticism | OneFootball

Arne Slot has hailed the reaction of Darwin Nunez following his criticism of the player’s effort during Liverpool’s draw at Aston Villa.

Slot was critical of Nunez following his reaction to a missed chance during the clash at Villa Park earlier this month. The Uruguayan blazed over a glorious chance to win the game for Liverpool, after Dominik Szoboszlai had unselfishly squared the ball.

It continued a difficult season for Nunez, who has scored just four times in the Premier League for Liverpool this season.

Slot believes the miss impacted Nunez’s mentality for the rest of the game and said the 25-year-old did not put in his usual effort levels.

Nunez was an unused substitute during the 2-0 win at Manchester City at the weekend but Slot has praised the response from the forward this week.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Newcastle in the Premier League this evening, the Dutchman said Nunez has been ‘incredible’ in training.

“He he was incredible in the training session yesterday when it comes to work rate. Hopefully he can keep doing this,” Slot said at his pre-match press conference.

“I can’t accept if a player doesn’t give everything. That is clear. I can accept it once but twice was a bit too much. That’s why I addressed it.”
