Reds Ease Past Accrington Stanley in FA Cup Victory

Christ it was absolutely freezing at Anfield. However, there was a lot to warm the heart in this one and Accrington certainly didn’t let their travelling fans down in anyway. There were a few surprise selections, there were a few goals that drew gasps and there were a lot of young reds in the ground which was most pleasing to see. A couple of scousers drew the headlines for Liverpool and it was one of those where it was a nice early afternoon soirée on Merseyside. We look at the lessons learned from Anfield as the reds move into the hat for the 4th round.

The Adored Scouser In The Team

When he was withdrawn with about 30 minutes remaining, Trent Alexander-Arnold applauded and acknowledged all four corners of the ground and had more than earned the recognition. The vice captain and leader on the day ran the show in this one and when he smashed it into the top corner off the post we shouldn’t have been surprised, as it wasn’t the first time. West Derby’s finest inverted quite a bit, but his passing and ability to dictate was a cut above the rest. You knew he was man of the match by the time he went off and what we’d give for him to sign that contract.

Youngsters Shine

Well I don’t want to overreact but it’s hard to judge which of these will win the balon d’or in a few years time. Rio Ngumoha clearly has stardust in his feet and an ability to beat a man with ease. The youngest ever player to play for us in this competition completed the most dribbles (3) on the pitch in the first half and understandably tired a bit. Jayden Danns then picked up the star boy mantle and it was brilliant to see the young Scouser tuck in the rebound, having won the ball and played Chiesa in to see his shot saved. There’s a lot to like about what these two did and you know we’ll see them again in the not too distant future.

The Tale of Three Attackers

You expected Diogo Jota to get a goal, just because that’s what he does. The right man on the run spot to open the scoring. Maybe It was surprising he played the full game, but a great performance from him. Whilst Nunez deserved credit for his assist, his miss from point blank was typical of how this season has gone for him and it’s almost painful for all concerned right now. Then throw into the mix the lesser seen Federico Chiesa, who more than impressed in his cameo. He was unlucky to hit the post and the Italian got the goal of the game late on. You do wonder when we’ll see him next, but then you never know with Arne Slot.
