Liverpool are facing a contract conundrum over Ibrahima Konate.
The French defender is out of contract in 2026 and so far the club have been unable to convince him to sign a new deal. Having joined the club in 2021, the 26-year-old was a star of the 2024/25 Premier League title-winning campaign.

Although he’s been beneath his best to start the current season, there are few better defenders around when Konate is on form.
The Reds paid £35m to RB Leipzig for Konate and would be against losing him for free next year. If they cannot come to an agreement then he could be SOLD either before September 1’s transfer deadline or else in January.
Real Madrid of course are right there for Konate - intending to capitalise on his dwindling contract in order to strike a free transfer agreement.
Konate is reported to have asked Liverpool for £200k per week but Madrid will blow that sum out of the water and also add a sizeable signing-on fee.
And Madrid media has now reported that Konate has REJECTED a mammoth contract offer from an unnamed team in the Saudi Pro League.
Defensa Central claims that Liverpool were willing to ACCEPT a €60m offer for Konate but the player rejected the move.
“In Saudi Arabia, they have tried to sign the French defender in the last few hours, taking advantage of the fact that he is in the last year of his contract,” the report reads.
“In fact, they have even offered Liverpool 60 million euros for him, but the fact that Ibrahima Konaté himself has not wanted to move has been key to the operation not going ahead, since the English did not see the option of getting that money for his signing as a bad one at all.”
This development could be taken a couple of different ways.

One, Konate is content to wait it out for a Madrid contract offer. The 15-time European champions will be permitted to make contact over a Bosman in January.
And more optimistically, it might be that Konate is happy to remain at Anfield and all that needs to happen is a contract extension to be sorted between the player’s entourage and Richard Hughes - the sporting director.
Liverpool may well have accepted €60m for Konate this summer and plough the proceeds into a deal for Marc Guehi. But we have to wait a little bit longer before we understand what the future holds for him.
