Lineker severely criticises Leicester hierarchy and recruitment

Former Leicester City striker and current Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has been talking passionately about his beloved team. Lineker was born and raised in Leicester, turned out for the side, and played a significant part in forming a consortium to save the club over twenty years ago. So, in my humble opinion, he has the right to speak on King Power affairs. And, for someone with a laid back demeanour, he is actually more forthright and forthcoming with opinions on the Foxes than some would imagine.

This time around the 64-year-old was, in fact, severely critical of how LCFC has been run in the recent era. The east Midlands outfit's hierarchy and recruitment bosses have all come under fire from the retired England international. And he didn't hold back, to some surprise in the Blue Army I'm sure. In addition to that, Lineker had another warning for the organisation. In doing so, he revealed some insider information he is privy to due to having many contacts who remain working at, or playing for, the Foxes. So, what exactly did he divulge? And who precisely was chastised by the broadcaster?

Gary Lineker on Leicester City Football Club

As I say, Lineker is well-informed and still knows people at the King Power. I'd say when he talks City, the faithful should probably pay attention. And to be totally honest, he basically said what most of us fans are thinking. In this instance in particular it is as reassuring as it is worrying to hear validation from someone such as the TV star.

"I think it’s difficult. I don’t think we’ve got a great squad at the moment. I don’t think the club has been run brilliantly in the past few years, particularly in terms of recruitment. They’ve made a lot of mistakes. A lot of people at the club are worried about things at the top."- Gary Lineker

As you can read for yourself above, in his own measured and reserved way, Lineker lambasted City's ownership. It is rare for people so closely associated with the club to criticise Aiyawatt 'Top' Srivaddhanaprabha - but it shouldn't be if necessary!

Director of football Jon Rudkin was also pointed out indirectly. Not to mention the recruitment department being singled out. And I fully agree with Lineker. Certain signings are my main concern.

It is also crucial to identify that the former professional footballer was also complimentary about new Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. Furthermore, Lineker sent encouragement to the Dutchman:

"Good start (for van Nistelrooy). Five points clear of relegation. I’m nervous. Like all fans of teams down there, if I express any degree of confidence here, all of a sudden two games later your head is in your hands."- Gary Lineker
