Lille OSC’s search for a replacement for Lucas Chevalier (23) has taken a blow. L’Équipe had reported that the club had set their sights on the Netherlands U21 goalkeeper, Robin Roefs (22). However, according to a report from David Ornstein, the shot-stopper will be joining Sunderland AFC instead.
Sunderland have reached an agreement with NEG Nijmegen to buy Roefs for €10.5m (plus €3m in bonuses and a sell-on fee). The goalkeeper will undergo his medical later today before signing a five-year contract with the Premier League side.
Lille are in the market for a new goalkeeper, with Chevalier expected to leave for UEFA Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain. The France international has already agreed personal terms with the club, although no official offer has yet been reported.
Despite losing out to Sunderland, Lille have cast a wide net, and they reportedly opened discussions with Tottenham Hotspur over a loan move for Czech goalkeeper Antonín Kinský (22). Olympique de Marseille’s Jeffrey de Lange and Toulouse FC’s Guillaume Restes have also been linked with a move.
