Game of the week: Paris Saint-Germain v OGC Nice, Friday 20:45 (UK)

There has perhaps been no better time to face PSG. Their full focus is really on the Champions League with their first leg against Arsenal coming just days after they host Nice at the Parc des Princes. An invincible season in Ligue 1 is an objective but one that is harder to sell given what is at stake in Europe. It is showing in their recent performances. Their win over Angres, which secured the title was the first of a series of sub-par results. Luis Enrique’s men edged past Le Havre but were not so lucky against Nantes. Rotation has plate a part in the drop off in form in Ligue 1 with Achraf Hakimi left out of the 1-1 mid-week draw against Les Canaris but those on the pitch have shown a dropping of intensity that is now reflecting in results. There aren’t necessarily alarm bells; PSG’s thoughts are simply elsewhere and that can offer hope to their opponents during this run-in.

Nice are more desperate for points than PSG and that could show. Franck Haise’s side bounced back from a five game winless run with a victory over Angers at the weekend. It wasn’t a spectacular performance but the important thing was the three points and they never looked at risk of not picking them up. Le Gym drew against Les Parisiens earlier in the season during a period that the latter were not at their best. The same applies for this return fixture and whilst Nice are still the underdogs, the conditions are prime for an upset.

Raphaël’s full predictions:

  • PSG 2-1 Nice
