Liga MX Clausura matchday 10 was all about Pumas and Chivas who both sacked their respective managers before meeting each other in the capital.

Gustavo Lema was released after Los Universitarios suffered defeat to struggling Tijuana whilst Oscar Garcia left Los Rojiblancos only moments before his Chivas side travelled to the capital for the weekend meeting.

Elsewhere, Club América hosted former manager Antonio Mohamed's Toluca as there was a homecoming for Fernando Ortiz, returning to Monterrey for the first time after being sacked in September 2024 with his new side Santos Laguna.

Here is all that happened:

Friday 28th February 2025

Mazatlan 1-1 Cruz Azul

La Máquina were cruising after back-to-back 1-0 wins over Santos Laguna and Queretaro where they were on course for a third when Mateusz Bogusz scored a perfect free kick to open his account since moving from LAFC in January but they were pulled back when Nicolas Benedetti scored an 86' minute equaliser from the penalty spot. The point a-piece leaves Cruz Azul in sixth whilst Mazatlan remain one position outside the Liguilla.

Saturday 1st March 2025

Club America 3-0 Toluca

Club América ended Toluca's title chances in the quarterfinal of the Apertura, a result which saw Renato Paiva leave his post at the helm of Toluca. In search of revenge, Toluca faced an uphill task against one of the league's in-form sides and their battle was made even harder when Álvaro Fidalgo scored his sixth goal of the season. André Jardine's side hit them early in both halves as Alex Zendejas turned from provider to finisher to grab the second before Cristian Broja scored late in the game to put the nail in the coffin for Los Rojos Diablos.

Juárez 2-2 Pachuca

Juárez have been reinvented under Martín Varini who joined the club in November, already equally their number of wins from the entire Apertura. They looked on course to beat that record in this game when new signing Mádson scored a first half double but Los Tuzos pulled it back in as Kennedy came off the bench to score his seventh of the season before the ever-reliable Salómon Rondón earned the visitors a point. There was time for one last piece of drama when Bryan González received a straight red card for Pachuca, but they were able to hold on.

León 2-1 Tijuana

León extended their unbeaten run to ten games with a comeback victory over Los Xolos. The visitors struck first through Kevin Castañeda, but Ángel Estrada equalised before halftime. With the match seemingly headed for a draw, Rodrigo Echeverría rose to the occasion, nodding home a dramatic 89th-minute winner.

Pumas 0-1 Chivas

The battle of the managerless unfolded in the capital, with both Gustavo Lema and Óscar García dismissed in the lead-up to this clash. Despite the off-pitch turmoil, the match remained uneventful, until Luis Rey was left unmarked at the back post, slotting home the game’s only goal in the 92nd minute.

Sunday 2nd March 2025

Querétaro 2-0 Puebla

Both sides missed penalties as Querétaro leapfrogged their weekend visitors at the Estadio Corregidora. Francisco Venegas gave Los Gallos the lead before Josue Colman missed his spotkick for the chance to double the lead. Parity was restored in the second half as Venegas bagged his second of the game before Puebla missed a golden opportunity to start a late comeback Ricardo Martín failed to score from 12 yards.

Atlas 3-1 San Luis

Atlas came from behind to mount a crucial win against San Luis. Oscar Macías gave the visitors the lead, looking to build on a 3-1 win midweek against Chivas but two from Uros Durdevic and a first of the season for Gustavo Del Preto sealed a crucial three points for an Atlas side four points away from the Liguilla.

Monterrey 4-2 Santos Laguna

Fernando Ortiz returned to the Estadio BBVA for the first time following his sacking in September, leading a Santos Laguna side rock bottom of the table. Ortiz's side tore a part the form book and took a shock lead when Aldo Lopez fired them in front but breakthrough responded before the break-through talisman German Bertérame. In the second half, Sergio Ramos rose highest to head home his first goal for the club before Bruno Barticciotto made it two-two with his fourth goal in as many games. With the game level heading into the final 20 minutes, Sergio Canales gave the home side the lead once more with the win secured via Gerardo Arteaga late into added time.

Clausura Table Update

Matchday 10 results see León stay at the top of the table, three points clear of a Club América side chasing a fourth-straight Liga MX title.

Two points separate the teams sat as high as Tigres in third and Juárez in eighth whilst Chivas' late winner gives them a two-point breathing space in the final Liguilla places whilst Mazatlán and Pumas look up with seven games remaining.
