Whilst French football moves on from the fallout of the failed broadcast deal with British broadcaster DAZN, the Ligue de Football professional has decided to press on with plans to establish its own channel for the 2025-2026 season. According to a report from L’Équipe, a tender process opened on Monday for the production of the new in-house broadcaster, set to launch on August 15 – the opening day of the new campaign. With no domestic broadcaster secured for next season, the LFP is moving ahead with a contingency plan: to run its own channel. However, the league is still open to partnerships with established media entities such as Canal+, beIN Sports, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, or even DAZN itself – but only under a deal offering guaranteed minimum revenue. This season’s broadcaster DAZN had reached an agreement with the LFP last month to end their Ligue 1 contract. The British broadcaster had a deal to show eight out of the nine Ligue 1 matches for an annual fee of €375m. “Coming to France, losing money and then stopping after one year doesn’t make much sense. We are convinced that in the context of the Ligue 1 channel project, we can bring a lot of added value,” the broadcaster told L’Équipe at the end of April. If DAZN were to be partnered with the LFP’s channel, the latter would renounce an €100m fee for breaking the contract. GFFN | George Boxall
