Jonathan Tah is playing an outstanding season and is largely responsible for Bayer Leverkusen’s championship title. However, if he does not want to extend his contract with the works club, they are said to be prepared to sell him in the summer. Sports director Simon Rolfes has now commented on the situation.

The rumour of FC Bayern’s interest in Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah has persisted for several weeks. BILD and Sky recently reported that Munich want to make an approach for the German international in the summer. In particular, the international’s contract, which only runs until 2025, makes him an interesting transfer target for the German record champions, who have been looking for a real defence boss for years.

However, Leverkusen are well aware of what they have in Tah and are pushing for a contract extension. However, sporting director Simon Rolfes can also understand „that at a certain age you think about perhaps doing something else after all“, as he explained on Sky. For him, this is „understandable and not a problem.“

Nevertheless, he has a good feeling that Tah will stay because the player knows what has happened in Leverkusen in recent years and also what is still possible. „That’s why I’m completely relaxed,“ concluded the 42-year-old.

Clear situation with Tah: extend or sell

The Bayern managers do not need to get their hopes up for a free transfer in 2025. Leverkusen boss Fernando Carro recently made it clear that although they want to extend his contract, Leverkusen are a club that „won’t let players go on a free transfer. That means we have to extend his contract, otherwise we will sell him.“
