Leeds United will be looking to seal another home Premier League win when they host Newcastle United at Elland Road on Saturday 30th August at 5:30pm. The Whites marked their return to the top flight with victory at Elland Road, while Newcastle drew their opening match. This game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League.

Draw (5/2 with Betway)

Three of the past four games between Leeds and Newcastle have been drawn. Newcastle are also winless in their past four away league games. Both sides could still be reeling from their respective losses last weekend, although they did come in very different fashions, and that could lead to this being a tightly fought, tense affair.

Both sides have put in impressive displays over the past couple of weeks, with Leeds playing well against Everton to secure the three points and Newcastle dominating things against Liverpool although ultimately coming away with nothing to show for it and we’re anticipating this one ending in a stalemate.

1st Half Both Teams To Score (7/2 with Betway)

Both teams will be looking to get off to quick starts in this one following their losses last weekend and we’re expecting a frantic game, especially in the early stages with both teams wrestling for control. Each of these sides have shown that they know where the net is in the early stages of the season and both have demonstrated they aren’t afraid to take a shot. On the opening weekend Leeds had 21 shots on goal, whilst Newcastle had 16.

With both teams focusing on attack, there could be plenty of opportunities in front of goal and we can definitely see some early goals in this contest.

How both teams go into Leeds vs Newcastle

Leeds’ return to the Premier League couldn’t have gone any better. It needed a late penalty, but the Whites marked their first home game back in the top flight with a victory over Everton. Now it’s about building on that victory and going into the international break with a positive result. Leeds fans may take home from their last Premier League campaign, opening 2022-23 with back-to-back home wins. That was also the last time they won two home matches in a row in the top flight.

They were unable to follow up that great result last weekend though. They were dominated by Arsenal, who ran out 5-0 winners at the Emirates Stadium. It was a result that brought Leeds fans back down to Earth and showed the harsh realities of the Premier League.

Newcastle started the season with a draw away from home against Aston Villa, failing to convert their chances despite accumulating 1.43 Expected Goals. It’s a problem they may continue to have with Alexander Isak’s future looking unlikely to be at St James’ Park. And Newcastle aren’t on the best run of form away from home, now winless in four including the end of last season.

Last week would’ve been a heartbreaker for Newcastle fans. They were the dominant side against Liverpool, but found themselves 2-0 down. They fought back to 2-2 and thought they had secured themselves a point before conceding in the 100th minute of the game to lose 3-2.

Leeds team news

Leeds will be missing two key midfielders with both Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu ruled out through injury.

Newcastle team news

Alexander Isak is unlikely to play, unless something drastic happens before this game. There is plenty for Eddie Howe to worry about elsewhere, too. There are injury worries over Fabian Schar, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton who all picked up knocks against Liverpool. He will also be missing Anthony Gordon, who was sent off against the Reds.

Leeds vs Newcastle head-to-head

Newcastle are unbeaten in their past four games against Leeds, but three of those matches have finished level.
