FLW outline all the latest injury and team news regarding Leeds United ahead of their trip to Norwich City.

Leeds United face Norwich City for the first time since the Championship play-off semi-final last season, but Daniel Farke has a number of injury issues to contend with ahead of the clash against his former side.

After beating Coventry, Leeds now sit in a very strong position in the league, just two points off West Bromwich Albion, who currently hold top spot. A return to Carrow Road for the first time since their goalless draw with Norwich in the first leg of last season's play-off semi-finals now awaits, with Leeds winning this fixture last season in the league.

Farke has the edge over his former side, having won both fixtures during the regular season by an aggregate of four goals to two, whilst drawing one leg of the play-offs before a 4-0 thumping at Elland Road back in May.

Leeds entered the new season as one of the early season favourites, but also with a full squad available for the clash with Portsmouth. However, naturally, there are going to be injury and fitness issues which arise over the course of the season, which has already proven to be the case.

Here, as the game on Tuesday night looms ever closer, we take a look at all the latest team news and injury issues for Farke's side ahead of the fixture.

Ethan Ampadu

Leeds' skipper is set to be out for around 10 weeks, according to Farke. That's after damaging his lateral knee ligaments in the win over Coventry City.

The Welsh international was forced off just before half-time against Coventry and was replaced by Ao Tanaka. Farke has now confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the knee injury that Ethan Ampadu sustained against the Sky Blues has ruled him out until close to January.

Leeds' captain played in 63 games last season for Farke's side and his country, Wales, proving to be a consistent figure for both sides. It's a huge blow ahead of a big game in East Anglia, as well as for the remainder of the games in 2024 potentially as well.

Max Wober

Max Wöber is suffering from a fresh injury concern after recovering from his early-season calf problem, which saw him miss the trip to Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday after he was also involved against Middlesbrough in their early season cup-tie.

Wöber did not feature for Austria in their second international outing of the month against Norway, suffering from meniscus troubles in his knee, making him a "question mark" for the game against Burnley. The Whites have also been attempting to adopt a conservative approach regarding the defender since returning from international duty.

Farke confirmed in the next press conference that the centre-back was a doubt for that game, and he has not been seen since. The latest is that he is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday on the meniscus issue. Farke stated that it will be six weeks until the Austrian is back in training.

Dan James

Another injury problem in Farke’s squad regards the fitness of Dan James, who was missing from the home game against Hull City with a hamstring issue of his own after the international break.

Farke then shared “bad news” about the winger, who aggravated and re-injured the same problem during his rehabilitation in the run-up to the game against Burnley, which would see him watch on from the sidelines for around four weeks.

Interestingly, out wide is perhaps one of the main areas of the pitch where Leeds can afford to lose a player to injury and still look very strong, but the Welshman remains out of action for the clash against Norwich and should return after the international break this week.

Manor Solomon

Prior to the game against Cardiff City, Farke confirmed that the likes of Junior Firpo, Joe Rodon, Joe Rothwell, and Pascal Struijk had missed training sessions during the week. However, all of those players came through in the end and were able to play some part in Wales' capital.

One other issue was Manor Solomon, who had missed training due to back problems. Since then, it has been revealed that he has also picked up a calf issue, which saw him miss the game against Coventry City over the weekend.

He remains sidelined, although no timescale has been provided by the German as to when the winger will return. It is likely to see Willy Gnonto and Largie Ramazani remain as the wingers on either flank at Carrow Road, leaving Leeds with no natural substitute out wide.

Isaac Schmidt

Leeds' versatile full-back is a summer signing who has taken to the pitch in the 89th and 83rd minute during his two league appearances so far, but he is set to miss out at Carrow Road after issues with his glute, as confirmed by Farke on Monday.

Schmidt may turn out to be a fantastic signing in the long-term, but he is still acclimatising to English football, hence the lack of regular minutes entrusted to him thus far. It's unlikely that he would have started or played meaningful minutes against Norwich.

His injury leaves Leeds light of defensive numbers, with Ampadu and Wöber also out. The 24-year-old Swiss defender is seen as cover at both full-back positions primarily, meanwhile Wöber and Ampadu helped cover the centre of defence. It leaves ex-Canary Sam Byram as Leeds' depth for multiple defensive roles on Tuesday night.
