Leeds United want to sign Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri | OneFootball

Leeds United are keen on signing Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri this summer, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

The Elland Road club want an upgrade on Illan Meslier following some underwhelming displays, and the Brazilian has emerged as a realistic target.

Perri was recently described by Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca as the ‘best in the world’ after some fine performances.

The Whites could sign the 27-year-old on a cut-price deal as the French club is under pressure to raise finances after the DNCG relegated them to Ligue 2 due to poor financial management.

However, Leeds could face competition from Saudi Pro League club Neom. They have yet to make an offer for Perri, but he would be interested in signing for them.

The Whites would be taking a huge risk with their chances of retaining their Premier League status if they stuck with Meslier in goal next season, and they need a quality replacement.

The Lyon star would be perfect for the job, with his shot-stopping reflexes and ability to save close-range shots, the qualities Leeds manager Daniel Farke needs in a goalkeeper.

Perri has yet to play for Brazil, but he received his first call-up in September 2023 for the 2026 World Cup qualification games against Bolivia and Peru. He was also selected in March.

A move to the Premier League could boost his chances of forcing his way into the plans of new Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti, which could aid Leeds’ hopes of signing him.
