Leeds United acknowledge the ‘chances are slim’ that they can manage to keep hold of Georginio Rutter, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Brighton & Hove Albion triggered a £40m release clause in Rutter’s Elland Road deal on Wednesday night and the decision is now simply down to the player.

He is expected to travel to Brighton today to complete the move and step back up to the Premier League.

Leeds have been making extensive efforts to convince Rutter to snub the Seagulls and stay at Elland Road.

However, they now acknowledge that the ‘chances are slim’ that they will succeed in keeping hold of the forward.

Losing Rutter will be a huge blow for Leeds to absorb on the lack of losing Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville.

There also remain question marks over the future of attacker Willy Gnonto, who has been linked with an exit.

The Whites will at least bank £40m from selling Rutter and look sure to increase the pace on their hunt for new signings before the window closes.
