Leeds United will enter the Premier League as champions after winning the Championship title in dramatic fashion on the final day of the season.

Manor Solomon scored in stoppage time as Daniel Farke’s men came from behind to beat Plymouth Argyle 2-1 on the road. The result means the Pilgrims will drop down into League One.

The Clarets were agonisingly close to clinching first place with a 3-1 win over Millwall at Turf Moor, but will console themselves with automatic promotion at the first time of asking.

Frank Lampard will take a team into the play-offs for the second time in his managerial career after his Coventry City side beat Middlesbrough 2-0 in a straight shootout for a place in the top six.

Bristol City took the last spot in the play-offs after coming from two goals down to draw with Preston North End, denying Blackburn Rovers in the process. Millwall’s defeat to Burnley saw them miss out, too.

Coventry and Bristol City will now compete with Sheffield United and Sunderland for promotion to the Premier League. The Blades and the Black Cats had already confirmed their place in this month’s mini tournament before Saturday.

At the other end of the table, Luton Town suffered a second successive relegation following a 5-3 defeat to West Brom. The Hatters were only in the Premier League last year, but will be playing in the third tier of English football along with Plymouth and bottom side Cardiff City next season.

They will be replaced by Birmingham City and Wrexham, who gained automatic promotion to the Championship from League One. Leyton Orient and Reading are playing for the final play-off spot on Saturday afternoon, with Stockport County, Wycombe Wanderers and Charlton Athletic’s place in the top six already secured.
