An historic night for Lautaro Martinez and Argentinian football. La Bombonera in Buenos Aires transformed itself on this dream night for the Inter captain, who entered by right into the history books when it comes to his nation's football. After the wins in the World Cup and Copa America (decided by a goal in the final), Lautaro Martinez climbed one place in the rankings of Argentina's highest goalscorers. He did so by deciding the World Cup Qualifier against Peru: 1-0, with a brilliant goal in the 55th minute. Messi's cross from the left and an extraordinary acrobatic effort, in the air, from Lautaro. The goal was marvellous, stupendous. It secured the win for Argentina and the extension of their lead at the top of the qualifying table - 25 points in 12 games, five points ahead of Uruguay. But, above all, it was the 32nd goal scored by Lautaro Martinez for Argentina: a significant number, because the number 32 signifies the number of goals scored by Diego Armando Maradona for Argentina. The party, therefore, was doubled: Lautaro reached Diego Armando Maradona as the fifth highest goalscorer of all time for Argentina. He did so thanks to an assist from Leo Messi, the highest goalscorer of all-time for Argentina. The standings only concern legends: Lionel Messi 112, Gabriel Batistuta 54, Sergio Aguero 42, Hernan Crespo 35, Diego Maradona and Lautaro Martinez 32. Lautaro played 81 minutes, before being substituted for Giuliano Simeone, receiving an applause from the fans at the Bombonera and the Head Coach Scaloni.
All ok for Canada, who beat Suriname to move onto the semi-final in the Nations League. 3-0 win at the BMO Field in Toronto, with a goal from David and a brace from Shaffelburg. Tajon Buchanan returned to action to get some minutes into his legs: he was subbed on in the 74th minute for Ali Ahmed.
