It is of course world football’s worst-kept secret that Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappé has been locked in talks with the brass at Real for some time now.

As much comes with a view to a joining of forces upon the expiration of the attacker’s terms with PSG in the summer.

An announcement regarding an agreement between the parties is expected to arrive at any moment, as the gap between Real Madrid and the chasing pack in La Liga looks set to widen ever further.

Speaking during a media appearance on Wednesday, the subject of Mbappé’s arrival in Spain was in turn put to the aforementioned Javier Tebas once more.

And, as alluded to above, the patron’s ensuing response has since given rise to widespread chatter.

This comes with Tebas having shown little hesitation in confirming his delight with one of world football’s best preparing to take his talents to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Why? Owing to the fact that the 61-year-old is himself a long-time Real Madrid supporter:

‘First, for Real Madrid, and I say it as a Madrid fan, it’s a great joy. [Mbappé] is one of the best players in the world. I could no longer say that he’s the best, because I think Bellingham is the best and Vinícius, too. But he is one of the best players in the world.’

Fans of rival clubs, in particular those of Barcelona, have since been left utterly bemused by Tebas’ comments.

This comes amid the general consensus that it is completely inappropriate for an individual in a position which requires neutrality to admit to his support for one particular party, owing to the potential conflict of interests involved.
