Back-to-back defeats against Valencia and Arsenal have turned up the heat on Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

There had been speculations about his continuity at the club even before that but the recent losses have fueled up the talks of a possible exit, with Xabi Alonso being tipped as the Italian’s successor at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ancelotti has come under heavy scrutiny and criticism, with fingers being pointed at him for not being able to get this Real Madrid team play as a cohesive unit as well as some of his questionable decisions with regard to selections and substitutions.

Jose Bordalas jumps to Ancelotti’s defence

Amidst all this, Getafe manager Jose Bordalás has come to the defence of Ancelotti, strongly rejecting the recent criticism aimed at the Real Madrid boss following the team’s 3–0 defeat at the Emirates.

Bordalas, who shares a close relationship with the Italian coach, made his views clear during his press conference ahead of Getafe’s match against Las Palmas.

“You all know how fond I am of Carlo, even though I have not had the chance to speak with him recently,” Bordalas said.

“I do not understand why there is any criticism. He deserves the highest level of recognition because he has given so much to Real Madrid. That can’t be questioned in any way,” he added.

Years of facing off in La Liga – Ancelotti with Real Madrid, Bordalas with Valencia and Getafe, the two have built a mutual respect that has grown into genuine friendship.

As such, Bordalas insisted that he “cannot and will not understand what is happening” before going on to say that Ancelotti deserves a statue for his contributions at Real Madrid, not criticism.

“He deserves a monument because what he is doing and what he has done at Real Madrid is incomparable,” the Getafe coach concluded.
